Chariots of the Gods (+ bonus!)

Hey-hey-hey-hey, what do we have here? A new post from me? And what about?

Vimanas! (and more)

Flipping through Fantasy-Tech: The Edge of Reality, I couldn't help, but notice the simple fact, that some of the vehicles there have... lackluster stats. Especially Vimanas, the "Chariots of the Gods" from ancient myths.

Hnd/SR for most of the vimanas is listed as 0/0, due to them having very bad aerodynamics, and pretty much no special control systems. From the aerodynamics standpoint, it makes sense. But from the fantasy standpoint, as well as from perspective of "Describing Vehicles" article - they're not the most fun.

(Vimana with Hnd/SR 0/0 tend to crash very often, and are therefore not really enticing for players to use)

So, I've decided to make my own, in sync with what I would expect from those vehicles.
And, to not drag it out over several posts, I'm also doing the land-sailing craft (as well as one little bonus vehicle)

Pictured: most common representation of vimana, courtesty of Google Images

Loonard's Vimanas:
I base my vimana image mostly on the "flying chariot" thing. Depending on the setting assumptions, these vimana may be piloted using Piloting (Vimana) or Piloting (Contragrav) and use magic, alchemical reactions or whatever else pleases you, for motive power.
Large vimana might as well use a Shiphandling specialty

Piloting/TL (Vimana) or Piloting/TL (Contragrav):

Loonard's Land Sailers:

Land Sailers in Fantasy-Tech suffer from a similar situation, as the vimana. That is, they have abysmal Hnd/SR.
The variants shown in a table below are more in-line with "cinematic realism" of such vehicles (and with Describing vehicles, and also my own undestanding of how vehicle stability works).

Pictured: Land Sailer from Volkov's "Urfin Juice and his wooden Soldiers",
"Wizard of the Emerald City" series
(basically Soviet version of Wizard of Oz, but it quickly went into full high-fantasy territory, Google that its kinda awesome)

And a bonus, because I wanted to do it in the first place - a little piece of transport, that made me notice vimanas in Fantasy-Tech, in the first place. From my favourite book series on pirates and flying ships The Edge Chronicles.

Loonard's Skycraft

To be completely honest, I really like these things. I love the design, and the way they're described in the books. So naturally, I decided to give them a GURPS statblock at some point.
These craft use another new specialty of Piloting

[2] Cannot take off on its own, has to be accelerated to at least Move 4 and pushed upwards or from a cliff (though a high jump will suffice in most situations). In air, speed depends on the wind.

The Skycraft are a type of aerial vehicle, used by characters in Edge Chronicles book series. They're made from Sumpwood, a type of wood that has natural lifting properties. They're propelled by sails in most situations, and can glide down. (but cannot do so reliably in high winds)
These stats can also be used to create similar vehicles in other settings. I could probably describe them as a "Sailing air-bike". The high SR of these vehicles is due to sheer properties of floating wood.

Skycraft - a personal flying vehicle, used for reconnaissance and exploration. It has one large sail and a hull carved in shape of some flying creature. The single pilot operates a complex array of levers (ten is traditional) to control the vehicle via a system of weights and smaller sails. Pilots are usually expected to be piloting and doing something else at the same time (like mapping. writing, or shooting a crossbow), and hence have high skill levels

Two-person Skycraft - this is a larger and much rarer design, intended for two people. It is similar in looks to one-person model, but has two seats and two large sails.

Three-Person Skycraft - this variant resebles a plane with sails, rather than an "air-bike", and has an actual cabin (albeit open). The skycraft of this design are quite rare, and usually have a single Scorpion (Basic Set p. 281) mounted in a pintle mount.

Flying House Skycraft - a variant of  Three-Person Skycraft, made for long-distance journeys. It has an enclosed cabin, where one person can safely stay. Equipment usually includes various nets, vapor-bags and other gear for long-term survival.
